Also known as Floripa or the Magic Island, this southern Brazilian gem is where Bianca spent nearly 10 years soaking up its beaches, mountains, and living the laid-back island life. It’s a place close to our hearts and we can't wait to share its beauty and magic with you! FOLHA BEACH CLUB

We’re tying the knot at Folha Beach Club, a dreamy beachfront spot in Jurerê Internacional — one of the most beautiful (and bougie!) areas in Florianópolis. Think ocean breeze and toes in the sand as we say “I do,” then party the night away just steps from the sea. It doesn’t get more magical than this!

FLIGHTS

There are no direct flights to Florianópolis from Canada or the US, the most common connection is through São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport (GRU). From São Paulo, there are many daily flights to Florianópolis, and the flight time is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Flying from Toronto?Air Canada offers a direct flight from Toronto to São Paulo (GRU), with a duration of about 11 hours. Flying from Vancouver?You will likely transit through a U.S. city, then continue on to São Paulo (GRU) before your final flight to Florianópolis. Booking tip:Flights to Brazil can fluctuate in price, especially around holidays and peak travel periods. We recommend booking your flight at least 3 to 6 months in advance to secure the best fares and ideal connections. Setting up price alerts can also help you monitor deals. Visa requirement:Canadian and U.S. citizens are required to have a visa to enter Brazil. Please be sure to check the current requirements and apply online on this <a href="https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/arriving-in-country" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">website</a>.The application process is fully online and processing times are approximately 10 business days, but we encourage our guests to apply well in advance to avoid any last-minute issues.

ACCOMMODATION

The wedding weekend festivities will take place on the north side of Florianópolis. Our wedding venue, Folha Beach Club, is located in Jurerê Internacional, so we recommend staying in or near this area. There are plenty of accommodation options available, including hotels and Airbnbs in and around Jurerê Internacional. We’ve secured discounted rates at three hotels located in Jurerê Internacional exclusively for our wedding guests. All prices listed are per room and include breakfast. Children up to 5 years old stay free in double rooms. Rates are based on Brazilian Reais (BRL) and displayed here in Canadian Dollars (CAD) for your convenience. Final prices may vary slightly depending on the exchange rate at the time of booking. The suggested dates can be adjusted according to what works best with your travel plans.

GETTING AROUND

Uber is available in Jurerê Internacional and throughout Florianópolis. Transportation to and from the wedding venue will be provided, so there’s no need to worry about driving on the big day. However, if you plan to explore the island (which we highly recommend), we suggest renting a car. Some areas of Florianópolis are more remote, where Uber may not be available. Public transit is limited and can be a bit tricky for non-Portuguese speakers — so a rental car will give you the most freedom and convenience. You can book a rental car through our travel agency partner, Orbistur. Please contact them directly using the information provided on this page. The drive from the Florianópolis airport to Jurerê Internacional takes about 45 minutes, but during peak traffic hours it can take significantly longer — sometimes even double. Please keep this in mind when planning your transportation.

What is the dress code?

Think Copacabana glamour meets island elegance! Ladies, cocktail dresses or jumpsuits in bold colors, or tropical prints are encouraged. The ceremony is on the beach, so we recommend flats or chunky heels to keep things stylish and sand-friendly, or feel free to kick off your shoes and go barefoot for the vows, then slip them back on for the reception. Gents, light suits or linen sets are ideal — tailored, breezy, and festive. Add a pop of color or pattern to embrace the tropical mood. Dress to impress, feel comfortable to dance, and bring the alegria! 🌴✨

What type of reception can we expect?

We’re keeping things relaxed and festive with a cocktail style celebration — no formal sit-down dinner, but plenty of cozy seating and tables if you’d like to take a break. Expect delicious Brazilian dishes, caipirinhas flowing, and lots of dancing. Come ready to mingle, show your moves, and make memories!

What kind of weather should we prepare for?

March is the tail end of summer in Brazil — still warm, sunny, and tropical. Expect highs around 26–30°C (79–86°F) with breezy evenings and the chance of a light sun shower. Perfect beach weather!

Are kids and plus-ones welcome?

Please note that the wedding ceremony and reception are adults-only events. However, children are welcome to join us for the Welcome Drinks and Praia Day on Friday and Sunday. More details about these events will be shared soon! Invitations are extended to the individuals listed and we kindly ask that no additional guests be added. We truly appreciate your understanding as we aim to keep the event intimate and special.

Will transportation be provided to and from the wedding venue?

Uber is easily accessible in and around Jurerê Internacional which would be the best option for transportation. You can also arrange a taxi ride at your hotel. The wedding venue offers free parking for those who prefer to drive.

Is there parking available at the wedding venue?

Yes. Free parking is available at Folha Beach Club for our wedding guests.

Will your wedding be indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony will take place outdoors on the beach, directly in front of Folha Beach Club, followed by the indoor reception at the club itself.

Where should we stay?

Check out our Travel page for hotel recommendations and discounted rates. There are also plenty of great options on Airbnb — just search for “Jurerê” to find places near the wedding venue.

Do we need a travel visa to enter Brazil?

Should we rent a car?

Do people speak English in Florianópolis?

Portuguese is the primary language and while some people — especially those in tourism, restaurants, and hotels — do speak basic English, it’s not guaranteed everywhere. That said, a friendly attitude and a few Portuguese phrases go a long way! Locals are usually warm and helpful, even with a language barrier. Apps like Google Translate work great offline if downloaded ahead of time. The staff at Folha Beach Club speak English, so our gringo guests will be well taken care of during the big day.

What is the currency in Brazil?

The local currency is the Brazilian Real (BRL). Credit cards are widely accepted at most restaurants, shops, and hotels. That said, it’s a good idea to carry a bit of cash for beach bars, or smaller spots that may not accept cards. ATMs are available throughout the island.

🏖 Beaches We Love

Praia do Matadeiro (south): This is Bianca's favourite beach. Beautiful with a rustic feel, accessible only on foot, 15min walk from Armação. Great for swimming and escaping the crowds. Praia Mole (east): Popular and lively, with great waves, beach bars, and a youthful energy. Great surfing spot. Praia da Lagoinha do Leste (south): A secluded, wild beach surrounded by cliffs and lush forest. Reachable only by hike or a boat ride in a fisherman's boat — perfect for nature lovers and adventurers. Jurerê Internacional (north): This is a calm beach perfect for lounging, sipping drinks, and soaking up that resort-style vibe. Praia Brava (north): True to its name (“wild beach”), it’s dramatic, scenic, and a favorite among surfers. In the Summer months this is a popular place known for cool bars and music. Praia do Forte (north): A quiet beach near Jurerê Internacional with calm waters, historic fortress ruins, and casual beachfront restaurants serving fresh seafood. Perfect for a relaxed swim and a laid-back lunch by the sea.

Mirante do Morro da Lagoa: A scenic viewpoint offering panoramic views of Lagoa da Conceição, the mountains, and the winding road below. Dunas da Joaquina: Towering sand dunes perfect for sandboarding, climbing, or simply enjoying an epic sunset. Trilha da Lagoinha do Leste: One of the island’s most iconic hikes, leading to a remote, stunning beach framed by cliffs and forest. Boat ride to Ilha do Campeche: A short boat trip takes you to this protected island paradise, known for its crystal-clear water, white sand, and ancient rock engravings. Daily departures available from Praia da Armação or Barra da Lagoa (weather permitting).

🌊 Water Activities

Stand-up paddle-boarding or kayaking: Calm waters in Lagoa da Conceição make it the perfect spot to paddle and take in the views. Surf lessons: Catch your first wave at Praia Mole or Praia da Joaquina, two of Floripa’s most popular surf beaches. Scuba diving in Barra da Lagoa: Explore the underwater side of the island with diving tours that leave from Barra da Lagoa, offering rocky reefs, marine life, and great visibility.

🍽 Food We Love

Amado Pescador: Located in the charming village of Santo Antônio de Lisboa, this relaxed spot serves fresh seafood with stunning bay views, perfect for a laid-back sunset dinner. Acqua Jurerê : Trendy spot right on the sand in Jurerê Internacional. Great food, good music, and a beachy-chic vibe that turns into a party as the day goes on. O Original na Brasa Parrilla: A must for meat lovers! This cozy steakhouse in Jurerê serves up perfectly grilled cuts, hearty sides, and a great selection of wines in a warm, rustic setting. Bill Sunset: A laid-back beach restaurant in Praia do Forte, perfect for a relaxed lunch during a beach day. Casual vibes, cold cervejas, and front-row ocean views. Ostradamus: A Florianópolis classic in Ribeirão da Ilha, famous for its oysters and oceanfront deck. Come for the seafood, stay for the views. Box 32: An iconic stand in the Mercado Público downtown. Known for seafood snacks and a fast-paced, fun atmosphere. Sabor da Costa: A hidden gem tucked away in Costa da Lagoa, accessible by boat from Lagoa da Conceição. Lagoa da Conceição – The island’s cultural hub, full of cafés, bars, boutiques, and a laid-back vibe. Great for a casual stroll or people-watching by the lagoon. Santo Antônio de Lisboa – A charming historic district with cobblestone streets, artisan shops, colonial architecture, and some of the best sunset views on the island. Passeio Primavera – An open-air shopping and dining complex in near Jurerê Internacional, featuring trendy boutiques, restaurants, and cafes.
